The Most Important Factor for Strong Immunity: Dr. Simon Goddek

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, decisions had to be made. This was the moment for scientists around the world to come together and offer solutions.

At the time, Dr. Simon Goddek, a systems dynamics biotechnologist from the Netherlands, had developed a comprehensive model for the human body.

And when he mapped out the immune system, he got an insight into one crucial factor that could save many lives during the pandemic. It was simple and cheap. Anyone could do it with their family physician. It would make experimental products and heavy government assistance unnecessary.

Goddek emailed his research to politicians and doctors, but none replied.

So he published his model in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Infectious Diseases. And that’s when the trouble began.

FULL TRANSCRIPT

Dan Skorbach:

Dr. Simon Goddek is a German scientist with a PhD in biotechnology. He has dedicated his career to improving human health. And when the pandemic hit, he was doing research at a world-class University in the Netherlands.

How it Started: The Vitamin D Model

Dr. Simon Goddek:

I had a huge model with many interrelations of many factors, which I could use for everything.

And when COVID started, I looked at the model and it was like, hey, look, this vitamin D—that’s the factor they need to address because it’s immunoregulating.

Why didn’t they do this? That’s what I was asking myself, and I was writing emails to politicians, to doctors. [I] got no answers.

And I was like, you know what, I’m going to write a publication. I’m going to explain why it’s necessary to inject vitamin D into literally everybody in the world. Because in the beginning of the pandemic, I [thought], okay, this might be dangerous, because I just saw the pictures from Bergamo and China. And I [thought], okay, if everybody has a proper vitamin D level, nobody has to fear anything.

Dan Skorbach:

This is what the paper looked like, and this is the diagram that Dr. Goddek modeled:

Here’s what it means. When you take vitamin D, it encourages the body to stop using parts of the immune system that cause inflammation and instead use the immune cells that have anti-inflammatory effects.

And this is important when you consider that COVID can cause fatal hyper-inflammation in the lungs.

That happens when an overwhelmed immune system decides to throw the kitchen sink at the problem which results in organ damage.

And people with certain underlying diseases are more susceptible to this outcome.

Consider that every fifth American has at least one autoimmune disease. That’s 50 million people with an immune system that is at odds with their body. Meaning these people are already in an elevated state of inflammation.

So Dr. Goddek hypothesized that based on existing research and his models, vitamin D3 could rebalance the immune system and encourage it to fight COVID in a less destructive way.

But rebalancing is not the only thing that Vitamin D does. It’s actually an essential component to a strong immune system. And it has to do with antimicrobial peptides.

Why Vitamin D3 is Essential to Immunity

Dr. Simon Goddek:

Vitamin D helps regulate the production of antimicrobial peptides. These are small proteins that defend against bacteria, viruses and other pathogens in general. So if you have a low vitamin D level in your blood, you most likely cannot fight off diseases. So this is what you need to know, in general.

And this vitamin D literally helps to regulate immune selectivity. So people with an appropriate vitamin D level, which I consider higher than 50 ng/mL, usually don’t get sick at all.

So while I was writing my publication, I read many papers that literally show data that people who have adequate levels usually don’t get cancer. They don’t get sick, they don’t have any health issues.

Actually I should have said the most important thing is a healthy diet. The second one is exercise. And the third is vitamin D together with omega-3. But I focus on vitamin D because if I talk about exercise and diet, that’s what everybody does. But usually people don’t talk about vitamin D

From Backlash to Blackout

Dr. Simon Goddek:

So I wrote this publication. And I published it in the Journal of Infectious Diseases. It’s quite a high impact journal. And I explained why K2 is necessary to administer it together with vitamin D.

And it was published somewhere in June—July—August—2020. And shortly after my university received emails–complaints that one of her scientists was publishing pseudoscience, dangerous pseudoscience, and stuff like that.

Eventually it got me into big trouble. But I couldn’t care less because it was peer-reviewed by several peer-reviewers and I’m kind of proud of this publication.

Dan Skorbach:

But the more Dr. Goddek tried to get this information out, the more resistance he got.

Dr. Simon Goddek:

I got lots of negative feedback, especially on Twitter. I had a very small account back then. I had an account with 20-30 followers. Super small. I posted my study there. I [said], “hey, guys, this is my study. Please read, it’s important.. And people started attacking me. Especially virologists. They went all in.

[Also] people from the skeptics movement. They call themselves skeptics, but they actually [are] like the rectum of Big Pharma. They sent emails to my university. And with all publications or especially this publication, they said it’s pseudoscience. And they claimed that I was selling vitamin D products back then and I just wanted to promote them, which was not true.

And guess what, my university didn’t like it. Not what they said, they didn’t like what I published. And eventually I had a talk with them. And they agreed that what I did was correct and that I’m a scientist, and that I can express whatever I think. But I didn’t keep my job for too long. Three months later, I was dismissed and I had to find a new job.

Dan Skorbach:

So what are the skeptics hung up on? Vitamin D seems to be in a similar situation as ivermectin. We talked about this drug in a past episode.

When it comes to vitamin D, many studies use a low dose to measure its effectiveness. This low dosage is based on sufficiency studies that try to determine how much vitamin D you actually need.

How Effective is Vitamin D?

Dr. Simon Goddek:

So for example, there are sufficiency studies that show that the improvement is 53 percent.

And the amount of sufficiency studies is 144. And there are more than 160,000 patients being treated. However, there’s one big issue.

Many of these papers–and I screened many of them–maybe I read 50 or 60. They say, “oh, it you’re already vitamin D sufficient if you have a blood sample of 20 ng/mL. But I don’t consider that sufficient—sufficient is [when it’s] more than 40 ng/mL. So, it depends on the perspective you have.

So if they say 20 ng/mL is sufficient, of course when people have 21 ng/mL and they get sick, they catch COVID—they can turn very ill because it’s not sufficient, even though it’s called sufficient.

On the other hand, there are many treatment studies. And you have to distinguish between prophylaxis, early and late treatment. And I’ve read them all. It’s a total of 100 studies. [And] there is an issue with these studies.

For example, the first one is the proper dosage. Many of these studies only administer 800 IU per day. And it depends on the age, the weight, the skin color, etc. But you should administer approximately 4,000 to 10,000 IU per day in order to achieve vitamin D blood serum level of higher than 50 ng/mL. So this has usually not been done.

The second issue is the duration of the supplementation. It takes a while until your blood serum level plateaus. It takes about two to four months. So when you do this kind of study, at least prophylaxis, you should wait four months after you measure the effect. And this is often not being done.

And the last issue is the achieved blood serum level. So you should have a blood serum level between 50-100 ng/mL. Because this provides you the best immune response. But most of the studies don’t go there. They go to 30-40 ng/mL and they check whether it has an effect.

But we can see studies that aim at 50-100 ng/mL—they show a very great effect of vitamin D. It’s far above 90 percent of efficiency—or effectiveness in this case—so it’s very effective.

The Proper D3 Dose

Dan Skorbach:

So what should be the proper dose of Vitamin D3?

Dr. Goddek told us that people should aim at getting at least 5,000 IUs per day, together with 200 mcg of vitamin K2. These two are crucial pairings because high dosage of vitamin D3 increases calcium levels in the bloodstream. And you need enough of K2 to put that extra calcium to use around your body, otherwise it can start accumulating in your arteries.

And again, these are not the daily values that are currently recommended by the medical establishment. But even if you do a quick search you will see that medicine is 17 years behind research.

Of course, you still want to talk to a doctor you trust about this and see if they can guide you, especially if you’re taking other medication.

After everything that happened, Dr. Goddek devotes his time now to raising awareness about vitamin D and its health benefits. He’s also running a startup where he’s formulating vitamin D supplements that have effective absorption and rounded health benefits.

And all of Dr. Goddek’s information can still be found on twitter, at least for now.

Dr. Simon Goddek:

I kind of felt [it was] obligatory to continue speaking out. Then I was banned very quickly. But since Elon [Musk] took over, it’s way more fun because I can speak my mind.

Dan Skorbach:
