With Donald Trump now officially being the president-elect, the big question becomes: what will he actually do?
While it might be impossible to map out what he’ll do over the course of four years—we actually have a good idea of what he’ll likely do starting on Day 1.
In fact, if we rewind back to an interview with Sean Hannity from early 2024, President Trump said he would be a “dictator, but only on day one.”
What President Trump was likely referring to in that interview were “Day 1 executive orders.” These are the executive orders that are prepared well ahead of time, so that a new president can sign them into effect on the first day of their administration. And this isn’t anything new.
On his first day in office, Joe Biden issued 17 executive orders—doing things like: stopping the construction of the US-Mexico border wall, revoking the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, rejoining the Paris climate accords and the World Health Organization, issuing a mask mandate on federal property—and so on.
It’s fairly common for a new president to hit the ground running by issuing these types of pre-written executive orders.
Now, as of yet, the Trump transition team hasn’t made public any official list of executive orders that might come down on the first day. However, there are a good amount of clues that were left during the campaign trail that we can use to piece together a good idea of what’s likely coming down the pike.
And so, let’s review some of the recent statements made by Trump, in order to map out the 8 executive actions that he’ll likely take immediately after assuming office.
