Frontline Health and Vital Signs
“Orandum est ut sit mens sana in corpore sano,” said the Roman poet Juvenal, meaning, “A man should pray for a healthy mind in a healthy body.” After reaching rock bottom in modern day lifestyle, many of us embark on a journey of learning what is good or bad for our health, and how to achieve the balance of a healthy mind and a healthy body.
EpochTV features a Lifestyle channel, with programs about cooking, farming, and beauty tips. With so much information out there, it falls upon each individual to listen to their body, and learn what works for creating the optimum mind-body connection. But that’s not all. No matter how well we manage to achieve the balance that Juvenal referenced, there might be external factors beyond our knowledge. It is here that the new health shows on EpochTV come to our help.
Frontline Health shares information gathered through an in-depth research about the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, and its repercussions. In each episode host, Dan Skorbach presents factual information on topics such as the leading cause of death in the U.S. during the pandemic, studies on the vaccines, and testimonials. Of course, the latest news on health and medical discoveries provided by the show is meant for informational purposes only.
Vital Signs is a new Wide Angle program, presented by host Brendan Fallon. In the first episode, the theories of “sun is good” vs. “sun is bad” are debated, with an emphasis on the importance of vitamin D. Experts in Western medicine, as well as traditional Chinese medicine, are interviewed for a wide perspective on the subject. By the end of the episode, we learn that as part of nature, we should not deprive our body of what keeps it in harmony with nature, and there’s a way to properly achieve that balance.
This reminds me of the traditional Chinese saying, Shì yào sān fēn dú, which means that medicine may have some side effects, and we need to be cautious and learn about them. It seems that no matter if it came from the East or the West, our ancestors followed a science that was based on understanding the human body, the mind, and the universe. The two new health shows on EpochTV, Frontline Health and Vital Signs, can help us understand our ancestor’s traditional science for achieving a balance of healthy mind and body.
