Special counsel Jack Smith leap-frogged the typical judicial process, and he directly asked the U.S. Supreme Court to get involved and rule on whether or not former President Donald Trump can be prosecuted. And while the trial itself is set to start sometime in March, right now there are a ton of behind-the-scenes machinations that are playing themselves out on both sides.
In order to make sure that this trial starts right in the middle of the primary election cycle, Mr. Smith leapfrogged the typical judicial process, bypassed the appeals court, and submitted a request directly to the U.S. Supreme Court.

According to a heavily redacted search warrant and other documents released earlier this week, Special Counsel Jack Smith demanded information on Twitter users who liked or retweeted President Trump’s tweets leading up to January 6th.
Twitter ultimately complied.
